Lady butchers to take on the lads

 - Published:  17 September, 2008

Two young female butchers are set to show their 13 male counterparts a swift blade or two in the hotly contested South West Butcher of the Year Competition.

The event is scheduled to take place at Beef & Growing Cattle South West 2008 Hatherleigh Livestock Centre on Thursday 18 September.

Butchers Emma Edwards Brady of Okehampton and Amy Croucher of Axminster will be competing for the top title, with 13 young men from as far afield as Penzance to Bridgwater judged by master butcher Tony Reed of the National Federation of Meat & Food Traders.

The young butchers will be assessed on their ability to debone a set of four ribs from the Jaspers Rib of Beef competition, as well as the texture and taste of their own prepared beef burgers, which will be cooked during the competition.
