Ranjit Boparan has cleared the final hurdle in his pursuit of Northern Foods and made changes at the boardroom level.

His offer for Northern became unconditional yesterday after gaining regulatory approval for the £342m cash bid.

Writing to staff at the Goodfella’s pizza and Fox’s Biscuits maker, Boparan said: “I am delighted the acquisition is now absolutely certain and the two companies can start working together.

“Already I have visited nearly all Northern Foods’ locations and have had the opportunity to talk with a number of colleagues directly. The passion and dedication at every site has been simply brilliant and I’m looking forward to working with Northern Foods colleagues in the future.”

It has also been announced that Anthony Hobson, non-executive chairman of Northern Foods, along with David Nish, Orna Ni-Chionna, Tony Illsley and Sandra Turner, non-executive directors, resigned on 7 April.

Boparan has been appointed as non-executive chairman of the company and ljinder Boparan, Kuldip Kular, Jon Silk and Graham Hunter were appointed as directors.

The company will be delisted from the stock market shortly.
