Butcher charged with hygiene failures
A Yorkshire butcher's shop is to appear in court charged with breaches of the health and hygiene regulations following an E.coli outbreak.
Bradford Council is to bring the case against D G Spauls butchers in Cottingley, after more than 30 people contracted the 0157 strain of the bug in May.
When the outbreak was confirmed, a joint investigation was begun by the West Yorkshire Unit of the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the environmental health department of Bradford Council. At the time, the HPA warned that the bug could be linked to cooked meats bought from the Cottingley branch.
The butcher's is now being charged with selling food unfit for human consumption and selling food below the quality demanded by the Food Safety Act 1990.
The case will come before magistrates in Bradford magistrates in September.
