Judges face challenge in hotly contested awards
Competition is hotting up to see which businesses take home the bacon, or beef, in this year's Meat & Poultry Processing Awards.
The event, organised by Meat Trades Journal, will see processors from across all areas of the UK, and a variety of different sectors, compete for a range of awards, from export schemes to environmental initiatives.
Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, said: "We've seen a superb number and range of entries into this year's awards, and it's going to pose a real challenge for our judges to pick out our winners.
"The meat processing sector in the UK contains some world-class operators and it's a real privilege for MTJ to be able to recognise some of the excellent work that is carried out across our industry."
The awards are now entering their second year and were established by MTJ to allow the processing sector to gain some recognition for the good work it does. The awards recognise companies and individuals in seven categories:
Environmental Initiative of the Year
Export Initiative of the Year
Plant Manager of the Year
Processing Business of the Year
Small Processing Business of the Year
Supply Chain Initiative of the Year
Young Processor of the Year
The awards are supported by the British Meat Processors Association, the Association of Independent Meat Suppliers, the Scottish Association of Meat Wholesalers Federation, the British Poultry Council and the Provision Trade Federation. Sponsors include Bizerba, Eblex, the Meat Training Council and Reiser UK.
Winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony on Monday, 28 March, 2011, at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.
