New Dicksons butcher's shop for Gateshead

Expansion plans at Dicksons are on a roll with the opening of a new-look shop in Gateshead.

The new shop at the Gateshead Interchange marks a departure from the traditional Dicksons pork butcher format, with a new contemporary design and layout, designed to attract the busy commuter.

It brings the company’s store tally to 20 as it continues its ambitious retail and wholesale expansion plans across the north east. The Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Michael Hood, officially opened the shop.

Kevin Lee, Dicksons CEO, said: “We are confident that Dicksons will be well received at this busy site, particularly by commuters passing through the interchange and those working in the local vicinity. This new shop will differ from our existing shop formats and the product range will be aimed at both traditional shoppers and the lucrative passing breakfast and lunchtime market.

“We recognise that buying habits are changing and the high street is not necessarily the place where people go for their groceries, but that the market for quality, take-away food is more buoyant than ever. As a result, you will find an ever-increasing range of our products on supermarket shelves and this is why many of our planned new retail shops will focus predominantly on the take-away market. Gateshead Interchange, with its busy through-traffic of commuters and shoppers alike, is certainly well-placed to pilot our new retail offering.”
