£65k illegal labour fine for poultry firm

A Derbyshire poultry processing company has been hit with a £65,000 fine for employing illegal immigrants.

Jinks Marketing International, of Foston, had been raided by the UK Border Agency in June. A total of 44 workers at the plant, more than half of the workers employed there, were arrested by immigration officers. Now, the UK Border Agency has hit the company with the heavy fine.

Under new legislation, the agency can fine companies that employ illegal workers without having to go through a court appearance process.

However, a spokesman for the agency said that further criminal action against Jinks Marketing International was still being considered.
