Morrisons to expand abattoir operation
A major supermarket group has been given permission to expand its abattoir operation.
Morrisons can now go ahead with an expansion programme at its meat processing plant in Colne, Lancashire. The company says that, when the expansion is completed, as many as 100 new jobs could be created.
Pendle Council overruled objectors, who had complained about possible increases in smells in warm weather at the expanded plant.
The abattoir, which provides pre-packed meat for stores, currently employs in excess of 600 staff at the plant.
