Cherry Valley invests in welfare training
A leading duck producer has invested in training to help boost welfare standards throughout its business.
Cherry Valley Farms has called in the Humane Slaughter Association (HSA), along with MVP Training, to provide a welfare training course to improve best-practice for welfare during catching and handling, restraint and culling of sick and injured birds.
Practical instruction in the course included the use of mechanical percussive devices designed for humane on-farm culling of poultry, as an alternative to neck dislocation, which will be restricted from January 2013 under European Council regulations. The course was attended by managers and stockmen from both breeder and grower operations of Cherry Valley Farms.
