Turtons seals deal with Union Market
Turtons of Devon has secured a deal with the new Union Market in west London to run four butchery outlets over a 5,000sq ft food hall.
The Union Market concept is expected to be expanded to 14 other sites across the UK within the next five years, with Turtons likely to supply all new outlets subsequently opened. Owner Steve Turton is also set to shake hands on another major deal with a London restaurant chain with 20 outlets throughout the capital, the name of which will shortly be revealed.
"You have to work a lot harder to grow in the current climate, but there is such a thing as profitable growth," said Turton. "It's very easy to grow if you're selling cheaper than anyone else, but that's not the case with us. We're competitive but we're not trying to get business purely on the basis of our pricing."
Growth by Turtons is likely to lead to the need for a second cutting plant, with turnover well up from £500,000 annually, when the company opened its first cutting plant in Willand 18 months ago.
