Builder beefs up tool kit with butchery

A 65-year-old builder has thrown a spanner into the works by teaming up with a butcher to open up a shop in Berkshire.

Alan Plummer has re-opened the Mr B's butcher's shop in Bracknell town centre with butcher friend and former Mr B's employee Dave Allsopp. The new shop is now called Bracknell Butchers.

Builder Alan, despite never working as a butcher before, says he has now re-tiled the shop and bought in new equipment, from an idea that all came about over a pint. He said: "I was having a drink with Dave one day and we were saying it was such a shame that the shop was lying there empty for 18 months. So I had a word with my son and we thought we would give a bash. We will give it a go and if we break even in the first year, I'll be happy."

Alan added that he still finds being a builder harder work and says he even comes home cleaner from butchery than he does from building work.
