Humane Slaughter Association offers scholarship

In order to encourage research that is likely to lead to advances in livestock welfare, and to mark its centenary, the HSA intends to award its first Animal Welfare Research Training Scholarship.

The award will enable a veterinary or science graduate to undertake a three-year programme of research, leading to a degree at the doctorate level. Applications are invited from students registered at UK universities or outside the UK where the university has an HSA link person.

The research project must show how the welfare of farmed food animals could be improved in livestock markets, during transport or at the time of slaughter or killing.

The HSA is an independent registered charity that promotes livestock welfare at markets, during transport and at slaughter through research and technical development, training and educational activities worldwide.
