Bpex and Eblex announce Fifth Quarter conference
Increasing the use of ‘fifth quarter’ products will be the theme of a new conference to be set up by Eblex, Bpex and the Food Chain and Biomass Renewables Association.
The conference is aimed at improving environmentally friendly and profitable usage of the ‘fifth quarter’, with discussion on all parts in this field of cattle, sheep and pigs including offal, blood, bones, hides and skins and casings.
The conference will be chaired by Eblex chairman John Cross and will include nine speakers covering areas such as seizing market opportunities for offal, the processing of edible co-products and the environmental impact of animal co- and by-products.
Head of exports for Eblex and Bpex Jean-Pierre Garnier said: “For the first time we are trying to link all elements of the chain from on-farm factors, processing quality, export sales, as well as minimising the environmental impact of these activities.
“We have created a National Meat Waste Task Force to take forward this vital agenda for the whole livestock sector and this conference is an important stage in this development.”
The event will be held on 8 September 2010 (Wednesday) in Warwickshire. For more information contact Helen Strider at helen.strider@ahdbms.org.uk
