Cuts pose a threat
Cuts in the public sector could have a serious impact on butchers, the president of the National Federation of Meat & Food Traders (NFMFT) has warned.
Speaking at the Profit in Recovery NFMFT conference last month, John Taylor told delegates: "The government is now addressing the deficit and the Chancellor's 'deep and savage cuts' in the public sector will impact on us all."
He said the news that the world's economies were recovering faster than anticipated may encourage the Chancellor to be more stringent than first planned, something which posed a threat to the butchery trade.
"History teaches us that cuts in the public sector often translate into increased unemployment, higher inflation and an uplift in interest rates all of which threaten the viability of businesses."
