Newent's Andrew Creese named Butcher of the Year
A Cotswold butcher was celebrating after being named ‘Butcher of the Year’ in a prestigious regional competition.
Andrew Creese Butchers, of Newent, took the title after beating off competition from a total of 35 different butchers shops across the area in the Cotswold Life Food and Drink Awards.
The shop was nominated by customers for the award, which was sponsored by Hartpury College, and he was praised for having first-rate quality products, great service and a fantastic understanding of food.
Shortlisted against Andrew Creese in the final were Browns Butchers of Cheltenham, and VW Lane Butchers, also of Cheltenham.
Each butcher received a “mystery shopper”-style visit, where meat was purchased and subsequently judged in its raw and cooked state. The finalists were also subjected to an in-depth interview from an industry expert before the difficult task of selecting a winner could be decided.
The awards dinner was held at the Cheltenham Racecourse this week (Monday) and Maurice McCartney, a trainer consultant within the Hartpury College Food & Drink team presented the Butcher of the Year award to Andrew Creese Butchers.
Owner, Andy Creese, said: “Winning this award is a great accolade for our shop. It’s great to know that our customers appreciate the effort we put in to provide high-class products and excellent service.”
McCartney said: “It was a difficult decision to arrive at, and on behalf of the College I would like to acknowledge the high standard of entrants in the category and wish Andy Creese Butchers every success in the future.”
