Amazon to sell meat

The website has announced the launch of its Grocery Store, and claims to be offering free delivery on its range of grocery products, which include meat packs, featuring everything from Gressingham ducks to a mixed pack of meat for families that includes sirloin steaks, chicken breasts and pork loin steaks.

The site is said to offer around 22,000 grocery lines, from Pampers nappies to Walkers crisps.

James Leeson, director of grocery at Amazon, said: “Amazon.co.uk’s aim is to be the place where customers can find and discover any product they want to buy online and, with the introduction of this new store, there are thousands of household, niche, ethnic and international grocery items, all available at the click of a button.

“With unlimited virtual shelf space, customers can choose from a wide variety of products, all of which benefit from free delivery. We will work tirelessly to increase the selection of grocery items available to be delivered directly to customers’ doors.”

The company said it was aiming to give customers the chance to take advantage of the savings and convenience of bulk-buying products. Delivery options include free one-day delivery for an annual membership fee of £49, the company said.

It is also offering “Free Super Saver Delivery”, where each and every product sold by Amazon.co.uk automatically qualifies for free delivery within the UK.
