Residents protest against ABP Ellesmere upgrade

A website protesting against ABP’s plans to knock down its Ellesmere abattoir and build a new slaughterhouse and lairage facility has appeared on the internet, at the same time as lobbying by local residents and organisations is being ramped up.

The no2abp website has been set up by local residents to “enable the residents of the villages surrounding ABP, to unite and share concerns about living with ABP in Hordley”.

The site claimed that residents are concerned about a number of issues in ABP’s proposals, including the level of traffic on the country roads leading to the Hordley premises and the speed of the traffic on the country roads leading to the abattoir.

An ABP spokesperson said: "All the issues that are raised are being dealt with by the planning authority. Every one of these issues is being discussed."

A number local organisations, such as Hordley Parish Council and the chairman of governors of Weston Lullingfields Primary School, have written letters of objection to Shropshire Council, where a decision is currently pending.

A website spokesperson added that people were "very concerned" about the plans, which, she claimed, would increase road traffic and noise and light pollution.
