Suffolk abattoir set to open
|
East Anglia meat supplier C&K Group will open doors to its multi-species abattoir on 2 August 2010 as part of a £5m+ investment project.
Lamberts the Abattoir, partly funded by the East of England Development Agency, will see the new 40,000sq feet development increase capacity in revenue terms to £30m+ over the next 3 years and create 35 new jobs.
The opening is against the backdrop of 8 abattoir closures and failures in the last 10 years, added the C&K Group, which its sees the new facility as being crucial to not only protect livestock and meat production in the region but promote East Anglia as a world class producer.
A C&K spokesperson said: “The new abattoir, to be opened alongside the current C&K Meats plant in Eye, Suffolk, will be a state of the art facility incorporating carbon reducing features such as rainwater harvesting and refrigeration heat recovery. Current production at the existing Earsham site is expected to nearly double by 2012 at the new site, and the current workforce of 55 is expected to rise to 90.
“The abattoir will give the local livestock industry a significant boost as producers will be able to cut travel time and therefore costs and distress to the animals.”
