Star apprentice
An apprentice butcher from Wrexham has mashed rivals with his bangers to become the young sausage-making champion of North Wales.
Robert Jones, 24, who works for Jones Brothers Farm Shop on Mold Road, Wrexham, won the coveted award for his pork and tomato sausage on his debut in the under-25 competition at Venue Cymru, Llandudno.
Robert, who works with his father Steve, brother Nathan, 19, uncles and cousins in the family business, said he was delighted to be crowned champion and hopes to go on to further competition success in future. His success follows gold and silver awards in the Wrexham sausage-making contest last year with his pork and leek and Welsh Dragon bangers.
Robert, who is working towards a Foundation Modern Apprenticeship in food manufacturing with the Cambrian Training Company, said: "This award shows what can be achieved when you are interested in your work and put your mind to it. We make around 30 different sausages and sell a lot through the shop. and our meat is sourced within a 25-mile radius of our premises."
