The people's choice

 - Published:  01 June, 2010

A taste test of sausages has found that 71% of tasters preferred locally produced sausages from the butcher to the commercially produced standard catering pork sausages used in comparison.

Nantwich butcher H Clewlows teamed up with a local agricultural college to invite 5,000 people to take part in the sausage blind taste trial. Visitors to the Reaseheath College Festival, tried a choice of traditional pork sausages produced by Clewlows compared to commercially produced sausages for the catering trade, with the butcher's produce getting the overwhelming thumbs-up.

Landrace white pigs, used in Clewlows' sausages, are reared at Reaseheath College and are taken to slaughter in Haslington nine miles away.
