Votes for meat personality flood in

 - Published:  28 May, 2010

Votes are pouring in for this year's Meat Industry Personality of the Year and the contest is looking tough. Four top names are vying for the title, with the winner to be revealed at the SuperMeat & Fish Awards in July.

Sainsbury's Tom Harvey, ABP's Richard Cracknell, Eblex's John Cross and the Food Standards Agency's Tim Smith all have a chance to win the prestigious honour, taken home by a number of leading players in recent years, including Brian Haigh, Stuart Roberts and Jim Viggars.

MTJ editor Ed Bedington said: "We're already seeing a large number of votes being cast, so if you want your favourite to win, you'd better get along to www.meatinfo.co.uk and make sure your vote counts."

Voting is currently live at meatinfo, and the poll will close on 9 June. This year's SuperMeat & Fish Awards sees Asda, Budgens, The Co-operative, Lidl, Tesco and Sainsbury's all competing for titles in the UK's premier meat industry awards. The event aims to recognise and reward excellence across the supermarket retailing of meat and fish. This prestigious event, held at the Hilton Hotel in London, on 1 July, evaluates products and stores, with one retailer being declared the overall SuperMeat Retailer of the Year.

Bedington said: "The competition across both products and stores this year has been fantastic and we're looking forward to a great awards night. The supermarket meat sector is vibrant and the awards indicate that."

This year's event is sponsored by Bpex, Clarke Wilmott, Eblex, Freedom Foods, Hybu Cig Cymru Meat Promotion Wales and Vion.
