Mutton Club hosts its first field event
THE FIRST ?eld event for the Mutton Renaissance Club, the new supply chain group launched by Prince Charles earlier this year, will take place in Gloucestershire.
The club's ?rst open event hopes to attract producers, processors, butchers, chefs and retailers and will be staged in partnership with Ensors of Gloucestershire in Cinderford.
Farm and abattoir visits, butchery demonstrations, a guest speaker and a hearty lunch will be included in the day's programme of events. John Thorley, policy director of the National Sheep Association, said: "This ?rst event will bring together those people already involved in the production of Renaissance Mutton with those across the supply chain that are keen to know more. Throughout the day, detailed discussions will consider the opportunities that Renaissance Mutton creates and how the supply chain can work together to capitalise upon them."
The aim of the Mutton Renaissance Club is to connect sheep farmers, abattoirs, butchers, chefs and retailers to enable them to share information, ideas and expertise. It is hoped that by working together members can tackle the challenges facing the emerging speciality mutton market and develop new trading opportunities. The Mutton Renaissance Club is open to anyone in the supply chain interested in the production, processing, retailing, cooking and serving of high quality mutton.
Membership is £45 per year and is free to members of the National Sheep Association and Academy of Culinary Arts. The club's ?rst open event takes place on 11 May and costs £15.00 per person.
