Asda staff raise over £130,000 for cancer charities

A team of Asda staff and suppliers have set a new world record for canoeing the length of Loch Ness.

Jim Viggars, Asda’s senior meat trader, led a team of 28 to set a new Guinness World Record by paddling the entire length of Loch Ness in canoe in 5 hours 19 minutes.

The team paddled the 24 miles non-stop, shaving a massive 1 hour 11 minutes off the previous record - and with it raising more than £133,000 for the Tickled Pink initiative, which supports Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Campaign charities.

Viggars said: “We are absolutely delighted with how well the race went – a really emotional day for all of us taking part.

“The weather was certainly on our side, with a calm lake and beautiful sunshine, and we thrashed the record. Though that’s not what it’s all about. We’ve raised a huge £133,000 so far and many of the racers are now set on a hobby of canoeing. We’ve not only made a difference to the lives of others, but are on the right track to making our own lives healthier and more fun too.”
