DVD sparks run on televisions
Sales of flat-screen televisions across Scotland have boomed, following the launch of a new meat cookery DVD by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association (SFMTA).
The Cooking With Meat film was created by the organisation, and funded by leading butchery supplier Dalziel, to educate both butchers and consumers, said Douglas Scott, SFMTA chief executive.
The DVD, presented by professional chef and butcher's grand-daughter Nicola Cargill, covers everything from stir-frying and grilling to roasts, stews and casseroles, featuring a range of recipes from the QMS library.
"Butchers felt that more people would buy more meat if they knew how to cook it that was the thinking behind it," said Scott. "The first objective was to give butchers something with which they could train staff, give them the information to advise the customers, and make sure they are all saying the same thing. The second thing was that it could be something they could give to customers, or have playing in the shop."
A single copy of the DVD has been delivered to butchers all across Scotland, and Scott believes the move has resulted in a mini-boom in television sales across the country, as butchers invest in the equipment to play the film in-store.
Extra copies of the film are now available to butchers, priced at £1.50 each.
