Butchers celebrate 10 years in trade

 - Published:  14 May, 2010

Two village butchers in opposite ends of England have celebrated their 10th anniversaries in the past month.

Rothbury Family Butchers, from Rothbury, Northumberland and Hursley High Class Butchers near Winchester both held events to mark the special occasion. Rothbury was open throughout the Bank Holiday weekend, offering tasters and conducting a raffle, as well as giving 10% off everything for the duration of the weekend.

Owner Morris Adamson said: "From humble beginnings with two staff, a second-hand meat display cabinet in a tiny shop, to eight staff, a double-fronted shop, National Sausage Champion, international awards, an online shop, Q Guild membership and even a royal visit, we have come a long way since we opened the doors in May 2000."

Brian Cheater has just celebrated the 10th anniversary of his butcher's shop in Hursley, Hampshire, by holding a barbecue outside the store. He took over the shop in 2000 after it had been empty for three years.
