Quality Meat Scotland wins award for SPCA tie-up
The Scottish SPCA’s welfare agreement with Quality Meat Scotland scooped the Success through Working in Partnerships award at Scotland’s Food and Drink Excellence Awards 2010.
More than 90% of pig farms in the assurance scheme, covering 620,000 animals, have been visited by Scottish SPCA inspectors, with the majority of pork produced in Scotland now eligible to carry the 'Approved by the Scottish SPCA' label.
Scottish SPCA chief executive Stuart Earley said: “This award recognises the value of achieving and maintaining the highest animal welfare standards in meat production.
"We’re proud of the fact that the ‘Specially Selected Pork Approved by the Scottish SPCA’ scheme has been recognised so quickly after it was launched in June.
Vion UK and Asda have also been involved in the SPCA scheme.
The award was presented at a ceremony at Benromach Distillery in Forres on 6 May.
