Midlands wholesalers complete £15m merger
JF Longman and Staffordshire Meat Packers (SMP), both Stoke-based, are to join forces in a deal that will create a company with a £15m turnover.
Operations will transfer to the SMP site in Bucknall, where SMP had recently completed a £3m investment programme, including a refurbished cutting room and a new processing area and increased capacity.
Weekly throughput will double to 300 cattle, 500 pigs and 1,000 sheep, while the total number of customers serviced will amount to more than 550.
“The merger will ensure SMP creates a business for the future, with scale and modern facilities,” commented SMP’s Harry James.
“The arrangement will enable our business to maintain its position as the leading regional player. It will also provide us with an opportunity to extend the business to achieve key national supplier status," added James
Mark Longman, of JF Longman, said: “We are pleased to merge our business with one that has a similar established supply chain, operating to the highest standards. Further investment is scheduled in the medium to long term.”
