National Trust to supply Great British Menu

 - Published:  01 April, 2010

TV series Great British Menu, in which chefs compete to serve the best UK regional dishes, is to be supplied by National Trust farmland.

Livestock and other products will be derived from the UK’s biggest farmer, with 200,000 hectares of farmland under National Trust ownership.

Chefs, including Nathan Outlaw of Seafood & Grill in Cotehele, Cornwall, Daniel Clifford of Midsummer House in Cambridge, and Tristan Welch of Launceston Place in London, will be sourcing finest produce from farms, gardens and neighbourhoods surrounding their local Trust house.

Beccy Speight, the National Trust’s local food champion, said: “We’re delighted that so many of our tenant farmers and other producers who often supply our own restaurants have been able to take part in the Great British Menu series.

“It’s wonderful to see sustainable, locally-produced quality food being championed by programmes like Great British Menu, and also to see it increasingly becoming available and sought out by growing numbers of people throughout the country.”

The fifth series of Great British Menu kicks off at 6pm on Tuesday 6 April on BBC2, with 24 chefs competing for eight places in the final round.
