Industry charity BDCI raises £130,000

More than £130,000 was raised for the meat industry’s charity, the BDCI by festival chairman Bernard Hoggarth (pictured, left) last year.

The amount was announced at the charity’s annual lunch, where the fund-raising effort was handed over by Hoggarth to incoming festival chairman Carsten Jakobsen.

“The guy has never undersold anything in his life and I am sure he will not undersell the BDCI,” said Hoggarth.

Despite the recession, 760 had attended the annual dinner last autumn, which raised £80,000. Additional donations raised £3,500.

In additon to the dinner, a golf day and karting day had raised £50,000. Hoggarth, who is chief executive of Cranswick, hoped that the karting event would become an established part of the calendar.

Mr Jakobsen, chairman of Tulip, said it was an honour and priviledge to be elected BDCI festival chairman. “I am determined to do whatever I have to do to make it another successful year,” he said.

“In these difficult times, for the coming year, I would like to take the opportunity to bring a little bit of joy back into people’s lives.”

This year’s annual dinner will be on Friday 15 October at the Grosvenor House hotel, London and “I promise you that you will be in for a real treat,” said Jakobsen.

The evening will be hosted by TV and radio personality Chris Evans, with musician Jools Holland and singer Alison Moyet performing.
