Foss launches MeatScan for small processing firms
Foss, the Warrington-based food analytics company, launched its MeatScan fat analysis machine for small-volume production at the Foodex show.
MeatScan carries out rapid, near-infrared analysis in foodstuffs, allowing processors to hit fat quantity targets.
Foss produces analysing machines for large-scale processing firms, but at around a quarter of the price, MeatScan removes the need for costly analysis results from external laboratories, while ensuring that suppliers are meeting the right criteria.
Measurements are based on over 20,000 reference meat samples from meat samples accumulated by Foss from supply analysis to the meat industry.
The analyser is about the size of a small suitcase, and involves placing the meat substance under a light source, which reads the composition of the meat and then displays it digitally.
