William Dyer takes Bpex south of England title
William Dyer from Ashtead has been crowned Bpex's Overall Champion for the South of England.
The butcher shop won three gold and two silver awards and category and overall champion award for the company’s ready meal.
William Dyer chef Steve Jones said: “We’re delighted and never expected to do so well. Our customers are always giving us great feedback on our pies and ready meals, so we thought it was about time we started putting them to the industry test.
Christopher Cripps, 22-year-old butcher from Greens of Pangbourne was awarded three category champion titles for his Traditional Pork, Speciality Pork and Lamb Sausages.
Other multiple award-winning butchers from the event were EM Hepburn & Sons, taking three category champion titles, and Rawlings of Cranleigh and Uptons of Bassett, with two category wins apiece.
Bpex butchery and product development manager, Keith Fisher, said: “The South England event was a superb end to the 2009-2010 roadshows. We congratulate all of those butchers whose efforts paid off.
"It is clear that the local independent butcher is the place to go for consumers looking for quality meats and produce.”
Nearly 250 products were put forward for evaluation, with 95 per cent of products entered picking up an award, and nearly half taking gold,
The seven regional champions from each event in the Bpex 2009-2010 butcher roadshow season go forward to the ‘National Champion’ final, which will take place at Butchers Hall in London in June.
