|
A product by Gloucestershire-based The Country Butcher was named Bpex's overall best bacon cure for 2010.
The Country Butcher's 'Bramley Apple Calvados' flavour was awarded the top prize, having already taken the Best Foodservice Cure prize.
Based in Huntley, and run by David Tomlins, the company supplies hotels and restaurants in the UK.
Boxleys of Wombourne in Wolverhampton won in the independent butcher category for its 'Traditional Dry Cured Back'.
M&S, supplied by Cranswick, won the multiple retail title for its 'Outdoor Bred British Smoked Dry Cured Streaky Bacon'.
The awards were presented at Butchers’ Hall in London by bacon enthusiast and dancer Anton Du Beke.
Du Beke commented: “All of the bacons really stood out as something special. The mixture of flavours makes them products that deserve recognition from all bacon connoisseurs.”
