Mellors success at Foodex

Butcher Benson Mellors was celebrating last night after taking the top title in the National Supreme Product Championships 2010.

Benson, who works at Mellors Farm Shop, Nottinghamshire, took the title with a pork pie, having already claimed both the category and meat and pastry champion titles in the competition, held at the Foodex 2010 exhibition yesterday (Sunday).

Other winners on the day included former Champion of Champions winner Steve Vaughan, from Penyfford, North Wales, who took the overall sausage title for his tradional pork sausage, putting himself once more in with a chance to reclaim his champion sausage title in October.

Head judge John Taylor said the event had been a great success: "The quality of entries has been superb and the level of entries was up on previous years."

The competition saw more than 400 products entered across a wide range of categories.
