RSPCA launch general election website
The RSPCA has a launched a new website for the general election in a bid to create an animal welfare manifesto to lobby prospective parliamentary candidates.
The Political Animal website aims to give supporters suggestions on ways to quiz their local parliamentary candidates while experts from the RSPCA will be on hand to answer queries on subject such as food labelling through the website.
RSPCA parliamentary officer Stacey Frier said: “The Political Animal microsite is a unique project allowing our supporters to drive the debate by letting politicians know what they want them to do for animal welfare if they are elected.”
The aim of the website, the RSPCA added, was to make sure laws protecting animals were not watered down and that progress was sustained under the next government. As well as information, visitors will also be able to watch video footage and get up-to-the-minute information about Political Animal on Twitter.
“The RSPCA and its supporters have been instrumental in campaigning for change in animal welfare legislation since the Society’s creation in 1824 and we’re urging the incoming parliament to continue to work with us to achieve further animal welfare milestones,” added Frier.
