£150m halal industrial park mooted for south Wales
As many as 3,000 jobs would be created in a new halal-themed business park in south Wales.
Costing £150m to build, the project is the brainchild of Mahesh Jayanarayan, chairman of Halal Industries.
Facilities would include a halal product-packing centre, halal meat processing, halal meat storage and a halal research centre.
According to Jayanarayan, “the halal sector in the UK is worth a huge amount, but the majority of the meat is imported”.
Estimates put the value of the halal market in the UK as high as £2bn. The park, if built, would be completed within three to five years.
Funding would come from outside investors, while Jayanarayan is also seeking government top-up grants.
