The annual NFU Conference launches today (Tuesday) with DEFRA secretary of state Hilary Benn in attendance.
Shadow secretaries Nick Herbert of the Conservatives and Lib Dem Tim Farron will also be present at the event, which runs today and tomorrow (23-24 February).
Farm minister Jim Fitzpatrick, Conservative shadow Jim Paice, Lib Dem spokesperson for Food and Rural Affairs Roger Williams and Plaid Cymru shadow minister Elfyn Llwyd will be involved in a ‘Political Question Time’ on the 24th (Tuesday).
Topics for discussion include a livestock session, “addressing the challenges, including climate change, that need to be overcome in order to develop a profitable and sustainable sector”.
There will also be a workshop on animal welfare and health, chaired by Meurig Raymond, the deputy president of the NFU.
The conference this year is titled ‘Delivering Farming’s Future’.
