Moy Park appoints former NFU boss

Former NFU director general Richard Macdonald CBE has been snapped up by poultry giant Moy Park in a non-executive director role.

Macdonald takes up the position this month, and will join the Moy Park Board working closely with the executive team and CEO, Nigel Dunlop.

Richard will become the first non-executive to join the board of directors since Nigel joined Moy Park in 2008. The company said his role would build on Moy Park’s industry leading position in agriculture, farming and welfare along with their 550 poultry farmers across Northern Ireland and England. It added that Macdonald’s strong links with the UK farming community complements its position and would deliver significant benefit to the business.

Macdonald joined the NFU in 1977 and was director general from 1996 until December 2009. He had overall responsibility for the management of the NFU and for policy advice to the organisation, as well as critical roles in the BSE and Foot and Mouth disease crises.

Nigel Dunlop, CEO Moy Park, said: “We are delighted to appoint Richard to this pivotal position on our board of directors. Moy Park holds farming at its core and Richard’s career to date has been all about supporting UK farmers. With his strong capabilities and depth of understanding of the business, he will be instrumental in further developing Moy Parks’ position within the UK agriculture industry.”
