Food industry exposé launches in cinemas

A film examining the major players in the US agriculture industry opened in the UK on Friday.

Food, Inc, a 90-minute documentary, is intended to expose “America’s industrialised food system and its effect on our environment, health, economy and workers’ rights”, according to its pre-release publicity.

“Industrial farms are also dangerous for their workers, pollute surrounding communities, are unsafe to our food system and contribute significantly to global warming,” the film’s website adds.

The film is being supported in the UK by the Soil Association.

In a statement, the organisation commented: “The film powerfully highlights the unintended consequences of industrial agriculture and the need to make fundamental changes to the way we farm, process, distribute, prepare and eat our food.”

Food, Inc has been nominated in the documentary category for this year’s Oscars.
