Mandatory EU organic logo revealed

The EU has unveiled a new logo that will must be included on all organic pre-packaged products made within EU member states from July 1.

The logo will be optional on imported products, while the use of other logos, whether private, regional or national, will not be affected.

The design is an amendment of the European flag, white stars in the shape of a leaf on a green background.

“I’m delighted that we have a fresh EU organic food logo,” said Mariann Fischer Boel, commissioner for agriculture and rural development.

The winning design is by a German student, and won 63% out of a total of 130,000 online votes.
