Meat focus for Foodex
More than 70 new exhibitors are set to make their debut at Foodex 2010, the UK’s leading meat exhibition. The new arrivals will be joining a strong list of over 200 firms, such as Handtmann, Reiser, Interfood Technology, Marel and Ishida Europe, which the organiser, William Reed Business Media, claimed demonstrated the continuing strength of the Foodex brand.
Foodex, previously called Foodex Meatex, with a heritage that stretches back to the 1980s, has been rebranded to better communicate the broad appeal of the show, from meat and poultry to the wider food industry, from fish to ready meals, said show manager Daren Rose-Neale.
Taking place from 21-24 March at the Birmingham NEC as part of the Food & Drink World exhibition, five themes have been designated for the 2010 show: Meat@Foodex; Dairy@Foodex; Fresh@Foodex; Seafood@Foodex; and Beverage@Foodex.
However, Rose-Neale said: “The meat and poultry sector continues to be a core element of the show and there is a strong representation from technology and service companies for the meat industry in both returning and new exhibitors. Also, a number of events, presentations and competitions have a very distinct meat industry focus.”
New exhibitors range from software developers and cold-store designers, to pie equipment producers and training providers.
Highlights of the show will see butchers competing to create the best meat display, as well as the National Supreme Product Championships, organised by the National Federation of Meat & Food Traders.
Other events include the Campden BRI Innovation Day on 22 March, which will highlight
some of the research being conducted into allergens and antioxidants, processing systems and microbiological shelf-life prediction, among other topics.
On Sunday 21 March, a special series of presentations for the meat sector will involve talks by the National Skills Academy for Food & Drink Manufacturing, plus lectures on the latest advances in food safety, organised by International Food Hygiene.
