Pork shows Christmas growth
|
Pork sales rose by 13.5% over the festive period in the UK, driven by increases in shoulder and loin roasting joints.
In the four weeks to December 27, shoppers also bought 2.3% more bacon and an additional 7.6% of pork sausages.
For the whole of 2009, volume sales rose by 3.1%, amounting to an extra 4,500 tonnes of pork sold.
BPEX head of marketing Chris Lamb commented: “There has been additional levels of promotion by retailers on shoulder joints, and we are still seeing the benefits of the Jamie Oliver TV programme on pork.”
