Six competition winners will be part of history when the Ryder Cup comes to Wales, thanks to Welsh Lamb.

Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) ran a UK-wide competition on packs of Welsh lamb to win six pairs of tickets to the event in Newport in October.

The biennial golf tournament between Europe and the USA is being held in Wales for the first time, and Keith James will be among the lucky few who will witness the important moment in Wales’ sporting history. Mr James, from Cardiff, is a member of Llanishen Golf Club, and said: “I love the taste of Welsh Lamb, and I’m very happy that it has given me the chance to be present at this momentous and historic sporting occasion. I am really looking forward to watching the world’s top golfers in action.”

Bill Joyce, HCC’s marketing manager, congratulated the six winners on their success: “Over 2,000 people entered the competition, which shows the popularity of Welsh lamb.”

He added that many more people would be able to enjoy their first taste of the meat thanks to the Ryder Cup. “People from across the globe will be heading for South Wales to watch this tournament. It will give them the opportunity to try locally sourced produce, including Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef.”
