University receives meat equipment donation
The Meat Training Council (MTC) has donated equipment for a new state-of-the-art regional food academy at Harper Adams University.
It gave more than £20,000-worth of meat processing and personal protection equipment to the processing hall at the new £2.5m West Midlands Regional Food Academy, which was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal.
MTC chairman Bill Jermey said: “The food sector is facing a considerable skills shortage and academies such as this can only encourage young people to consider a career in the food sector.”
According to experts, more than 100,000 jobs are going to need to be replaced in the food sector within the next 10 years.
The academy is in an old mill building at the Harpers Adams campus, which has been converted to house a range of food technology facilities, including a product development kitchen, meat processing hall, cheese room, taste panel room and a 100-seat lecture theatre.
