Job cuts at Pork Farms
Pork Farms is looking to cut 70 jobs at its plant in Nottingham as a result of increased automation. The Nottingham-based pork pie producing company has just undertaken an £11m investment, installing new infrastructure and equipment, which has led to the need to cut the workforce.
A company spokeswoman commented in a statement: "For some time we have been discussing with our representatives from Unite T&G the required staffing levels to run the business in the short, medium and long term that will help us to optimise the capacity at the factory and put the plant in a strong position for the future.
"We have received 37 volunteers following the launch of our voluntary redundancy programme in May 2009, approximately a third of the required reduction in our workforce.
"In order to complete our modernisation programme, and in light of a continued difficult trading outlook, we have started a 30-day consultation programme to reduce the workforce further."
The company currently employs 429 staff.
