National Butchers' Week

The discovery of the UK's greenest butcher will form the core of this year's National Butchers' Week activities. The week, now in its third year, will focus on how high street meat retailers are doing their bit in the fight against climate change.
National Butchers' Week was set up by leading trade magazine Meat Trades Journal to provide the retail butchery sector with a platform to promote their business. The aim of the week is to raise the profile of the trade among consumers, promoting butchers as a beacon of excellence for all things meat, and as a potential career to young people.
As well as the emphasis on sustainability, this year will also see MTJ introduce a schools focus with the creation of a lesson plan based around sausage making to tie in with the National Curriculum.
Consumers hunting for a local, first rate butcher will also be able to use MTJ's www.findabutcher.co.uk website, a free listing service for butchers and consumers to list their businesses.
