    Butchers will be urged to pull out all the stops this March when the fourth National Butchers' Week gets under way from 13-20 March 2011. Along with sponsors and supporters, event organiser MTJ has been bringing together a wide range of plans and initiatives to help give the week as much exposure and energy as possible. These range from offering materials to butchers for promoting themselves to encouraging schools across the country to team up with local butchers to make burgers and sausages.

    There is already lots of exciting activity planned for the third National Butchers’ Week, which will take place on 15-20 March 2010. Watch this space for details as they emerge.

    The2009 event took place from 16 - 21 March 2009 and was a huge success thanks to the hard work put in by butchers across the UK. Events held throughout the week attracted extensive newspaper and media coverage, ranging from national newspapers like The Times to regional papers and radio stations.

    Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, said: "The coverage surpassed all our expectations and the media spotlight was firmly on the independent butchery sector. “We managed to get mentions for the week in a wide range of publications and broadcasts, even getting Terry Wogan to give us a plug for the second year running, all thanks to a few award-winning sausages!

    “National Butchers’ Week is a great opportunity for everyone to get some recognition of the skills and hard work that they put in year-round.”

    National Butchers’ Week has received the backing of the National Federation of Meat & Food Traders (NFMFT), the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association (SFMTA) and the Guild of Q Butchers.
