Bpex has unveiled dancer and presenter Anton Du Beke as its celebrity face for Bacon Connoisseurs’ Week.
Now in its fourth consecutive year, 2010’s Week will include the ‘Bring Home the Bacon’ competition, aimed to uncover the most outstanding smoked and unsmoked varieties, while also seeking out the Best New Bacon Flavour Profile introduced in the last 12 months.
The contest will be judged by a panel of industry experts, as well as bacon fan Anton Du Beke. Bpex said this would be fantastic way for retailers and suppliers to promote their quality bacon varieties.

For the fifth year running the Bpex regional roadshows will be starting again from September 2009.
In summary butchers can enter products into 12 product categories including; sausages, bacon, pies, ready meals, faggots, black pudding and meatballs. The products get evaluated by a team of industry experts and points are given for a range of attributes, among them are appearance, consistency, texture, taste and smell. Any awards gained are presented on the night so that butchers can promote their achievements straight away.
This year the tour is joined by an even greater range of trade exhibitors who offered butchers, advice, show specials plus demonstrations and included: Avery Berkel, A W Smith, RAPs, Bizerba, Dalziel, Lucas, MRC, W J Packaging, W R Wright, Weddel Swift, Wiberg, Europak, Verstegen, Unifine and A Cold.

Climate change continues to dominate the headlines and will be the main topic of conversation at the annual Outlook Conference.
The morning session features Tom Vosa of the National Australia Bank looking at the UK economic recovery while Sion Roberts, chief executive of English Food and Farming Partnerships examines implications for the food chain and food affordability.
They will be followed by Dr Duncan Pullar, head of research and development for Eblex, tackling the myths and realities of climate change.
Mark Driscoll of the World Wildlife Fund examines the need to address the production and consumption footprint and the morning is rounded off by AHDB interim chief executive Richard Lowe, who will outline how consumers are reacting.
The afternoon will see parallel sessions taking place, one covering beef and lamb and the other pigs.
The cost for the one-day conference, which includes lunch, is £200 plus VAT and places are going fast, organisers said.

This annual event, organised by the National Beef Association and held at a different venue each year, is the major technical event for the UK beef industry and attracts thousands of beef producers from all over the country, as well as from overseas.
The 2010 event will be hosted by Hexham and Northern Marts and Scott Donaldson, an auctioneer with the mart and NBA Northern Council member, will chair the local organising committee.
