Lifetime ban for mouldy meat

The owner of an Indian takeaway in Scotland has been given a lifetime ban from running any food related business anywhere in the UK after health inspectors discovered raw meat that had gone off and cooked meat that had gone mouldy.

Sameena Shahid, 36, of the Almas Tandoori, Falkirk, was given the Hygiene Prohibition Order after admitting breaches of the food hygiene regulations when she appeared before Falkirk Sheriff Court.

The court heard that the council food safety team had visited the takeaway nine times in 16 months, closing it three times.

The kitchens were in such a poor state of hygiene generally they were a public health risk the prosecution stated.

After the case a spokesman for Falkirk Council, said: “This business posed a persistent risk to public health with a catalogue of contraventions that, whether in isolation or cumulatively, could have had serious consequences for its customers.”

A life time blanket ban on selling food is extremely rare and is only used by a court as a last extreme.
